A new wave of environmental leadership is set to take center stage this August as parliamentarians from across the globe converge in Ulaanbaatar for the Global Changemaker Academy for Parliamentarians (G-CAP) 2026 — a dynamic five-day programme dedicated to advancing sustainable land restoration.

Held alongside the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), this year’s Academy offers a rare opportunity for policymakers to combine high-level dialogue with practical leadership training. Participants will not only engage in immersive Academy sessions but also contribute directly to global negotiations and discussions shaping the future of land use and restoration.

With land degradation threatening food security, biodiversity, and climate resilience worldwide, the Academy places parliamentarians at the heart of the solution. Through expert-led sessions, peer exchange, and hands-on learning, attendees will strengthen their capacity to craft impactful legislation and drive national-level action on sustainable land management.

Parliamentarians are key changemakers in the global effort to restore degraded land. G-CAP equips them with the tools, knowledge, and networks needed to turn ambition into action.

“Society should pay for the services nature provides. Carbon storage. Hydrology. Protection from flooding. Protection of biodiversity and landscapes. Costa Rica demonstrates that can be reversed… making it profitable…. Get used to being alone when you want to change the world,” said H.E. Carlos Alvarado Quesada, 48th President of Costa Rica.

The fully sponsored programme invites applications from national members of parliament who are actively engaged in land conservation and management. Selected participants will join a global community of leaders committed to building a resilient, sustainable future.

Applications are now open. Interested parliamentarians are encouraged to submit their profiles and experience in land restoration initiatives.
