Land restorers seeking out land planners and managers

May 19, 2023

Members of the G20 Global Land Initiative Coordination Office (ICO) will participate, for the first time, at the world’s premier gathering of surveyors and land use planners: the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Working Week taking place from 28 May to 1 June in Orlando, Florida.

ICO is aiming to share the G20’s land restoration ambition for 2040 and to promote gender responsiveness and land restoration among the technical experts the ministries of land, where decisions on land use and management are planned and executed.

The experts also plan to network with the young surveyors in attendance. ICO has a stand at the FIG Working Week 2023 to introduce the G20 Global Land Initiative, and its work.

FIG is a United Nations and World Bank recognised non-governmental international professional organisation.

Collaborating with the people who plan how global land is used or managed is critical. Their decisions can either undercut or speed up restoration of the one billion hectares of land pledged globally for restoration by 2030.

The sessions on women’s land rights, land administration and land management, the young surveyors network and the digital transformation are of particular interest to the ICO.

Professor Iyenemi Ibimina Kakulu, Professor of Land Management and Valuation of the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Nigeria and a technical expert to the Initiative Coordination Office, and Ms. Wagaki Wischnewski, Communications Coordinator. ICO, will participate at the annual meeting.

Prof. Kakulu and Ms. Wischnewski have scheduled bilateral meetings to ensure ICO has an even stronger participation at the next FIG Working Week.

The International Federation of Surveyors (FIG)  was created in 1878. Its members come from over 120 countries.

They represent national associations of surveying, cadastre, valuation, national mapping professionals, geospatial experts and quantity surveyors working in both the public and private sectors. The members come from the scientific, research and academic communities as well as from technology innovators and industry.
