Goals and Commitments for the Restoration Decade, A global overview of countries’ restoration commitments under the Rio Conventions and other pledges, published in 2020 by PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, was the first report to highlight the global pledges to restore degraded land. It concluded “the total of all restoration commitments by countries is close to 1 billion hectares, almost half of which are in Sub-Saharan Africa.”

Global Restoration Commitments and Pledges: 2024 Report analyses restoration commitments worldwide, offering insights into the current progress, challenges and opportunities for enhancing ecosystem restoration efforts. Developed to support global restoration goals and address pressing environmental challenges, the database consolidates diverse data on restoration pledges and creates a standardised, transparent framework for monitoring global commitments.
