MUNx @ UNCCD Initiative – Youth at COP17

Start date: Thursday, 13 August 2026
End date: Monday, 17 August 2026

The UNCCD G20 Global Land Initiative (GLI) is looking for young leaders and Model United Nations (MUN) participants to take part in real UN policymaking through the MUNx @ UNCCD Initiative, culminating at UNCCD COP17 in Mongolia.

This initiative connects the global MUN community directly with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), moving youth engagement beyond simulation and into live diplomacy on land degradation, drought and sustainability.

For MUN organizations

Host an MUN conference that connects directly to the UN system and COP17.

Partner benefits include:

  • UNCCD-aligned MUN committee topics and guides,
  • Educational materials informed by UN processes,
  • Joint certification for participating delegates,
  • Membership in a global MUN sustainability network and
  • Nomination of up to two delegates to attend COP17 in Mongolia.

For MUN delegates and youth

Current and former MUN delegates may apply independently.

Selected youth may:

  • Attend UNCCD COP17,
  • Participate in the UNCCD Youth Forum,
  • Engage in UN side events and policy discussions,
  • Access mentorship and UN networking and
  • Receive travel and accommodation support subject to availability.

At COP17, selected participants will:

  • Contribute to official youth statements,
  • Engage with UN officials and policymakers,
  • Gain visibility at global environmental negotiations and
  • Connect with youth from Mongolia and worldwide.

Express your interest now!

Interested youth and MUN organizations are invited to express their interest through the application form to be considered for participation in the MUNx @ UNCCD Initiative and COP17.

Actual dates will be announced at a later point.
