Side events
Land degradation in Africa’s lowland systems significantly reduces agricultural productivity and undermines essential ecosystem services like carbon storage and flood control. Climate change is exacerbating the problem, putting many lowland agricultural areas at risk of further degradation. This side event will bring together policymakers, researchers, and development partners to explore strategies for accelerating lowland restoration in Africa. It will focus on inclusive land restoration solutions and innovative partnerships led by AfricaRice, CGIAR, G20 and NARS partners, emphasizing the critical role of lowlands in food security, ecosystem services, and the frameworks needed to scale up restoration efforts across the continent.
