Attend a five-day workshop and gain skills in cutting-edge technologies to assess land degradation dynamics and restoration efforts

Bonn 26/09/2023 —The G20 Global Land Initiative Coordination Office (G20 GLI) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the newly established Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Land Management (CoE-SLM) at the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) are inviting applications to a five-day workshop offering practical insights and skills in the application of cutting-edge geospatial technologies on land resource mapping and monitoring.

Participating professionals, government officials and senior private sector actors will acquire the skills they need to effectively monitor and address land degradation. The workshop’s curriculum is designed to provide actionable knowledge and tools to safeguard land, our planet’s most vital resource. It includes hands-on experience with tools such as QGIS software for crafting informative maps and Trends.Earth, the Land Degradation Monitoring Toolkit.

Titled, “Assessing Land Degradation Dynamics and Restoration Efforts with Remote Sensing Data and GIS Tools,” the workshop will take place from 15 to 19 January 2024 at the Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Land Management (CoE-SLM), ICFRE, Dehradun, India. Selected candidates will receive required support, including travel and accommodation, based on need. The application deadline is October 31, 2023.

The workshop will cover a wide array of topics, including land degradation indices, early warning systems, land cover classification via remote sensing data and an examination of vegetation dynamics and land use changes.
