The once gargantuan wilderness of the Amazon and Atlantic forests stood weakened, in hopes of a better and brighter tomorrow. Large patches of uncovered land, changing climate and shrinking biodiversity were all signals that something had to be changed.
re.green Brazil set out on its mission to answer this call: to restore 1 million hectares of degraded land in these forests. This would help to capture 15 million tonnes of carbon per year while conserving biodiversity, sustainably managing forest products and empowering local communities.
Today, re.green is bringing together ecological science, advanced mapping and strong local partnerships to restore forests at scale.
Their work goes beyond carbon. Their approach is holistic and far-reaching. They support nature-based solutions that value biodiversity and community livelihoods. They help ensure that the people who live closest to the forests can continue caring for them.
Their emphasis on a lasting connection between communities and land strengthens the integrity of their projects, which is why re.green’s credits carry meaningful co-benefits and have earned the prestigious CCB (Climate, Community & Biodiversity) seal.
On 26 March 2026, the Brazilian government awarded re.green the first-ever Amazon reforestation concession for the Bom Futuro National Forest, where they will restore around 59,000 hectares of degraded land alongside indigenous communities.
Earlier, on 6 November 2025, they received one of the world’s most prestigious awards for tackling climate change and environmental threats: the Earthshot Prize, often dubbed the Oscar of Sustainability.
Not only this, but on 19 May 2025, they concluded a landmark biodiversity-labeled transaction by securing almost US$15 million from Brazil’s Climate Fund.
Their momentum is no coincidence; they have been at the forefront of the restoration movement for years. In 2022, the G20 GLI team visited re.green to observe firsthand their restoration efforts in the Atlantic Rainforest. The visit offered an inspiring glimpse into what is possible when science, long-term commitment and the dedication of local communities come together to breathe life back into degraded landscapes. Our documentary on their work became a proud reference example in our course Trigger Change! a unique learning journey dedicated to land restoration that highlights inspiring initiatives and practical pathways to rebuilding ecosystems at scale. The documentary will also be featured in our upcoming Massive Open Online Course: Opportunities in Land Restoration.
re.green’s journey is inspiring and their efforts remind us that the Earth holds music for those who listen, art for those who see and love for those who feel. It is a connection that belongs to all of us.
