This is an inspiring session for young people, practitioners and communities leading reforestation initiatives that support sustainable wood value chains and protect forests to engage with experts in sustainable forestry practices and management. It aims to inspire participants to consider questions such as How serious is the deforestation challenge? What are sustainable forest-based livelihoods and industries, and how they are managed? What innovative forest restoration practices with species recovery and biodiversity protection efforts we can learn from? Are there job creation opportunities exist in these practices and how can they get financed? Global experts and youth leaders will discuss these and other questions to share latest forest management and fundraising practice, models, and insights.

Session Objectives

  • Demonstrate the role of forest, and the importance of forest restoration, outlining global forest restoration actions with practical examples.
  • Elaborate practical examples of nation-wide and international successes of forest-based economies, and industrial practice
  • Highlight opportunities for youth, educators, practitioners, and local communities to build capacity in forest protection and management and to lead future forest restoration actions.
