Behind every great idea is someone bold enough to act on it. For Maryanne Gichanga, CEO and Co-Founder of AgriTech Analytics, that boldness began with a simple belief: technology can transform farming and restore degraded land.
Her company, incorporated in Kenya, harnesses AI-powered satellite imagery and IT systems to tackle soil degradation, crop pests, and plant diseases. The goal? To help smallholder farmers not just survive, but thrive.
At first, it wasn’t easy. Many farmers couldn’t imagine how technology could help them manage their land without being physically present in the fields. Skepticism was high, especially among those who had already lost hope. One farmer, on the verge of giving up and converting his farm into rental houses, became one of AgriTech’s first success stories. With training in soil health, pest and disease management, and sustainable practices, he turned his land around. His yields grew, he began propagating resilient seeds, and today he leads a cooperative of 400 farmers who benefit from AgriTech’s support.
Maryanne’s work is about more than yields—it’s about changing lives. Farmers are not only producing more but also creating jobs, feeding their families, and building resilience to climate change. AgriTech trains them in organic farming, soil testing, record-keeping, and financial management, giving them the tools to thrive sustainably.
This impact has not gone unnoticed. Maryanne on the Youth Ecopreneur Awards Land Restoration Category organized at the Summit of the Future, and celebrated as winner of the Land of Opportunities Competition Award at COP16.

But for Maryanne, the greatest recognition comes from seeing young people bring their ideas to life.
“I urge every young person to take their idea out of their minds and start executing it. Don’t wait for capital, don’t wait for the perfect moment—just start. Even a proposal can open doors and attract the right people to support you.”
This is the spirit of the YECO – Youth Ecopreneur Programme. YECO 2025 is calling on young changemakers with bold ideas in land restoration, agriculture, and sustainability. It’s your chance to join a global network, gain mentorship, and transform your vision into real impact.
