Bonn, 14 February, 2023 – The most recent international meeting of the governments that cooperate to save biodiversity agreed on targets that bode well for the G20 to achieve its ambition to cut land degradation by half by 2050.
In the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework agreed in December 2022, the countries that are party to the Convention on Biological Diversity agreed to “ensure that by 2030 at least 30 per cent of areas of degraded terrestrial, inland water, and coastal and marine ecosystems are under effective restoration, in order to enhance biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services, ecological integrity and connectivity.”
