Trigger Change! Innovative Sustainable Agriculture Solutions for Land Restoration: A Resource for University Professors
This new course, developed over six months by a team of university professors and sustainable agriculture experts from around the world, serves as a comprehensive resource for educators. In line with the ambitious goals set by the G20 Leaders’ Declaration in November 2020 to reduce land degradation, it forms part of the Global Initiative on Reducing Land Degradation and Enhancing Conservation of Terrestrial Habitats.
Released in April, 2024 this course targets university students and training institution participants worldwide enrolled in agriculture and related programs. With a focus on sustainable agriculture and innovation, it aims to equip a new generation of land restorers and ecopreneurs.
Professors, lecturers and training instructors can receive course materials and implement this course to empower their students in addressing the challenges of land degradation and promoting sustainable development.

Course Structure: Five Modules for Sustainable Agriculture and Land Restoration
The Trigger Change! Innovative Sustainable Agriculture Solutions for Land Restoration course is structured into five modules, spanning 48 hours of in-class instruction. Each module delves into innovations in sustainable agriculture for land restoration, providing a comprehensive learning experience for students.
Interactive Learning Approach: Beyond Traditional Lectures
This course transcends conventional teaching methods by incorporating various interactive elements. Students engage with the material through case studies, interactive discussions, exercises and assignments, fostering a deeper understanding and application of the concepts presented.
Flexibility and Adaptability: Empowering Educators to Customize
Designed with flexibility in mind, this course offers modular content that allows educators to tailor their teaching approach. Whether integrating the entire course or selected modules into existing programs, educators have the freedom to adapt the material to suit their educational objectives and classroom dynamics.
The course is structured around 5 modules:

Land, landscapes and society: Introduces the core concepts of land restoration, looking into landscapes, good practices, trends in land degradation and historical perspectives.
02.
Agricultural Approaches to Sustainable Land Management (SLM) for Land Restoration: Explains the role of SLM in sustainable agriculture and how these contribute to land restoration.
03.
Tools and technologies for land restoration assessment and monitoring: Describes various tools and technologies for sustainable agriculture and land restoration by applying data analysis to specific cases.
04.
Decision making tools and enabling factors for land restoration: Articulates economic, environmental and social rationales for land restoration and applies tools, such as social and cost-benefit analyses for decision-making, to enable land restoration.
05.
Catalysts for innovation and start-ups: Reflects on catalyzing innovation and designing business plans for start-ups in sustainable agriculture and land restoration - from farm level to landscapes.
