UNFCCC COP 31

Start date: Monday, 9 November 2026
End date: Friday, 20 November 2026
Location: Antalya, Türkiye

The 2026 UN Climate Change Conference will convene from 9-20 November in Antalya, Türkiye. The meeting will consist of the 31st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 31) to the UNFCCC, the 21st meeting of the COP serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 21), and the eighth meeting of the COP serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 8), as well as the 65th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 65) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 65).

COP 30 accepted Türkiye’s offer to host COP 31 in Antalya, welcoming an arrangement between Türkiye and Australia to share the COP 31 Presidency, with Australia designated the “President of negotiations”. A Pre-COP meeting is expected to convene in the Pacific.

The SDG Knowledge Hub story on COP 30 is here. The Earth Negotiations Bulletin (ENB) summary of COP 30 is here. According to ENB, the Brazilian Presidency announced that, in response to the lack of consensus on addressing fossil fuels and deforestation in the “Mutirão” decision, they will develop two roadmaps: one on the transition away from fossil fuels in a just and equitable manner; and the other on halting and reversing deforestation. The Brazilian Presidency will report on the outcomes of these roadmaps at COP 31.

ENB further reports that additional topics expected to be discussed at COP 31 include post-2020 finance, the seventh review of the financial mechanism, the periodic review of the long-term global goal under the Convention and of overall progress toward achieving it, and mountains.
