Land Degradation and Restoration in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Countries

Co-organized by the Statistical, Economic  and Social Research and Training Centre for  Islamic Countries (SESRIC), Türkiye’s Ministry  of Environment, Urbanization and Climate  Change, and the G20 Global Land Initiative at  the UNCCD, this webinar supports OIC Member  States in scaling up efforts to combat land
degradation and advance restoration, supporting  priorities set under Türkiye’s OIC Chairmanship.

The session will showcase Türkiye’s national  experience in combating land degradation and  advancing Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN), and introduce pathways for deeper cooperation  between the OIC member countries and the G20  Global Land Initiative at the UNCCD, including  its Associate Membership framework now open to non-G20 countries.

The webinar provide a platform to:

  • Present the G20 Global Land Initiative, its activities, and the G20 vision for achieving the 2040 global ambition of halving degraded land.
  • Introduce the new Associate Membership framework of the G20 Global Land Initiative to OIC countries, highlighting opportunities for engagement and how G20 and OIC countries alike can benefit from mutual knowledge exchange and joint restoration action.
  • Showcase Türkiye’s comprehensive experience in following and implementing the LDN process from its inception, including policy alignment, monitoring systems, and practical restoration measures.
  • Foster dialogue among OIC member states and relevant stakeholders to identify synergies, promote knowledge exchange, and explore opportunities for joint projects and partnerships in land restoration.
